It has been said that Fort Worth, Texas is the museum capitol of the southwest. At Fort Worth the choice of museums is yours, whether your passion is science, art, antique airplanes, history or cowboys, Fort Worth has a museum for you.


Fort Worth Museum of Science and History- Located at fire station number one on Second and Commerce Street, in downtown Fort Worth. This museum is located in a ninety-five year old fire house. You will see over one hundred and fifty years of Fort Worths history and development at this site. The original Fort Worth city hall was located here. The first floor of the building housed the hook and ladder wagon for the fire department. The mayors office and other city officials occupied the second floor. Exhibits at this museum consist of the following:



-Interactive bunkhouse, featuring local cowboy star Charlie Bell.

-Scale model of the town of Fort Worth, established in1849.

-Major General William Jenkins Worth ( Fort Worths name sake) featuring the generals writing desk and uniform.

-You will also find many other science and history exhibits relating to both local and world events at this museum.


Texas Cowboy Hall Of Fame And Museum- Located at the Stock Yards in Fort Worth, this museum houses everything you ever wanted to know about cowboys and more. World championship cowboys are honored here in such categories as: all around cowboy, bull rider, and barrel racer just to name a few. The following exhibits are also found at this museum:

-The Stargull Wagon- A collection featuring over sixty antique wagons, carriages and, sleighs

-A Sicilian Cart- 1750s vintage horse cart with exquisite painted scenes and precise iron work.

-Welsh Funeral Cart- Displaying its magnificent beveled glass windows , gold leaf paint and plums.

-The Justin Trail of Fame- Native born John Justin established the Justin Boot Company. The company was world renown for its customized boots for famous customers. On display you will see many styles of boots along with photographs of famous people taken with John Justin.

-Amon Carter Museum- Located at 3501 Bowie Boulevard, Fort Worth. Admission is free. You will be journeying back in time when you observe American works of art of the nineteenth century. Rare collections of illustrated books can be found at this museum. These beautifully illustrated books divulge the tastes, culture and interests of the 19th century American Culture. These books illustrate such subjects as fashion, travel, medicine and architecture. This exhibit attempts to show how 19th and 20th century artists captured epic moments of our national history through prints and drawings.


Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth- Located at 3200 Darnell Street, Fort Worth. An abundance of masterworks of modern and contemporary American and European exist at this museum. Five-thousand-three-hundred square feet of gallery space and a 9,250 seat auditorium will provide you with a learning experience second to none in the field of modern art.


Several other noteworthy museums are: The Vintage Flying Museum, The Historic Wall and the Kimbell Art Museum, all located in downtown Fort Worth.


The Fort Worth area provides an abundance of historical sites and museums which will provide educational and wholesome entertainment for the entire family.
