If youre planning a trip to Brasilia, Brazils capitol city, it should come as no surprise to learn that a majority of your days sightseeing activities will revolve around architecture. In case you wondering how youll spend your evenings, you neednt fear. Brazilians love to eat well, and there are plenty of great restaurants to keep you full. If you get the urge to hear live music or see a play, then Brasilias got you covered there as well. In recent years, more clubs and bars have opened up if youre more of the night-owl type. No matter how you want to spend your nights, Brasilia has something for you.
The perfect way to begin an evening is to watch the sun set atop of one of Brasilias largest attractions, the TV Tower. Since it stands nearly 250 feet into the air, you will get the best panoramic view of the city from the tower. You can look out over this uniquely conceptualized city and debate over whether the buildings form an arrow, an airplane, or a butterfly.
If you are lucky enough to be in town while a performance is going on in the Teatro Nacional, make sure to try and get tickets. The cities musical performances and dance exhibitions take place in one of the three stages found in this Oscar Niemeyer-designed theater.
After your picturesque view or show, you will probably be hungry for dinner. If you find yourself in the mood for Italian food, then dine at Belini. More than just a restaurant, you will also find a specialty bakery and cooking school at this Brasilia establishment. With fine Italian specialties like specially prepared risottos, you might think youre in Naples and not Brazil.
Or, if you prefer, you can sample some more traditional dishes at O Espanhol. If you like paella than youre in luck because it's the specialty of the house. It comes to your table in the traditional clay pot used for cooking. The portions are large, so be prepared to share or loosen a few belt loops.
If dinners over and youre not quite ready to turn in than head to the Othello Piano Bar. As the name suggests, you can listed to a skilled pianist tinkle away on the ivories as you enjoy a cocktail further away from the maddening crowd. For a modest cover you can enjoy this throwback to a bygone era.
If crowds are what youre after, however, than Gates Pub is where youll want to be. This is where the hipsters come to let loose, and listen some great live music (on Friday and Saturday) or to dance the night away on disco nights (Thursday and Sunday). If youre more into a peace and love scene, than Beirute has more of an alternative feel, filled with artists and funky types.
No matter how you choose to spend your Brasilia nights, you will have a good time. As an added bonus, the weekends usually see less people in the city. Many workers commute to the city during the week but have families in one of the satellite towns around Brasilia. From a perfect sunset, to a great dinner, ending with a nightcap or two, a night in Brasilia will certainly be memorable.
