If you are looking for lively nightlife, Paris tops the list. From sexy cabaret, to jazz to theatre, Paris offers something to make any party-hopper happy.


At nightfall, the streets of Paris are illuminated by the neon signs of popular nightclubs and bars. Parisians love the nightand often start their evenings when the rest of the world is headed to bed. Here are some of the trendy hot-spots where you can enjoy good music and good cocktails until the early hours.




Cabaret is one of the hottest night clubs and restaurants in Paris. It is a trendy Middle EasternNorth African restaurant and bar that often attracts the rich and famousNaomi Campbell and Kevin Spacey have both been spotted there. The door policy is strict, so if you want to guarantee your entrance, book a table in advance. Cabaret is open daily from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.


Queen has a reputation for being a gay club, but entertains a mixed crowd on most nights. Wednesday nights are straight, but gay friendly, Saturday nights are gay night and Monday, Thursday and Sunday nights are disco nights. Enjoy drag shows, go-go boys and theme nights throughout the summer. Queen is open from midnight until dawn.


Les Bains, meaning The Baths, is a former Turkish bath from the turn of the century. This nightclub remains one the chic clubs in Paris and it can be difficult to gain entry. Mondays draw a large gay crowd.


If you are in the mood for a cabaret show, check out Moulin Rouge, which opened in 1889. The famous Paris nightclub was made infamous by the famous painting, and more recently, the motion picture. The French cancan was invented at Moulin Rouge, which features 100 performers and many more costumes. Make reservations in advance.


Another good cabaret show can be seen at Les Folies Bergre, which opened in 1861. This club is said to have been the birthplace of modern musical review. Provocative dancers and the French cancan are staples at Les Folies Bergre.


Looking for something more spontaneous? Head over to the southeast tip of the city, behind Notre Dame. There you will find the show, a group of individuals looking to showcase their talents in everything from magic to fire-eating to mime. The free show is spontaneous and always different.


Another fun, spontaneous show can be seen at Chansonniers, which provides musical satire of the disaster of the day. The improv show is a Parisian institution.


If you are looking to catch a show at the theatre while in town, check out the weekly listings in the Pariscope or in the bi-monthly Boulevard, which is printed in English. The performances start later, usually between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. It is typical for Parisians to dine after the performance, but if you are looking to safe money, eat first. Most of the inexpensive restaurants close early.


No where else will you find such a wide array of clubs, bars, theatres and discos as in Paris. Any night of the week, you can entertain your night-owl at any one of the numerous Parisian hot-spots.
