Tucson offers diverse concerts, theatre and dance each evening. Local print media carry announcements of daily shows. Most halls and stages are concentrated in the University of Arizona and in the Downtown Arts District. You could also stroll in to either area when you have finished with work for the day, and find an enthralling performance even if you have not had time to make advance bookings. The Temple of Music and Art and the citys Convention Center Music Hall are the places with the best programs. The Rialto Theater is also worth a visit to catch an unusual show over a first drink of the evening. The city has its own orchestra and a fine theater tradition.

The Tucson Jazz Society renders yeoman service in promoting budding artists and in presenting the best of this musical art form in the city. The jam session every Sunday evening at the Old Pueblo Grille is worth staying over in Tucson, though there are quality shows throughout the week. Primavera is another unique creation of the Society, with the most memorable performance by women artists. Jazz Werx encourages schools and children to take an interest in this kind of music. Experienced band leaders ensure that shows by young people live up to commercial entertainment standards.

Mariachi is another specialty of Tucson. The experience of this wonderful form of performing arts and music is worth traversing great distances to enjoy. The indigenous people of Mexico originally practiced Mariachi with local instruments such as clay flutes and conch shells, but quickly adapted to guitars, horns and other forms introduced by Spanish adventurers. Mariachi is one of the most exciting and enjoyable of the performing arts and the music truly stirs all those whose senses are even remotely exposed to its magic. Tucsons most lasting contribution to your cultural literacy can be an addictive exposure to Mariachi.

Drop in for a drink, once you are able to tear yourself away from Tucsons fascinating cultural feast, at Anthonys in the Catalinas. The spectacular views of Mountains on one side and Tucson on the other will touch a chord as your choice of spirit finds its spot. The gourmet fare and elegant setting will ensure that the sense of refined joy after a series of sublime cultural performances is indelibly etched in your memory.

Check in the papers if Laffs has a show during your stay and take in a comedy show. You feel national comedians performing with some creditable local talent over a relaxing drink Gentle Bens is a good choice when the weather is fine, for it has much open seating. Students from the University visit it in large numbers. The Thunder Canyon is a haven for beer lovers and convenient for those who choose to stay at a resort near the hills. The Desert Diamond Casino and the Casino of the Sun have gaming tables and slot machines. A stop over at either or both adds a stimulating touch to the evening. The Boondocks is perfect for the Blues and for Reggae. You can catch a salsa lesson at the El Parador or just sit back and enjoy some throbbing Latino numbers. The Cactus Moon features country music and the latest hits on Sundays. IBT is a typical bar in Tucson that caters to gays and lesbians. There is generally a goodly gathering of people at such bars and you are welcome for a drink regardless of your own private choices. Nimbus brewing is frequented by Tucson locals and has a wide selection of beers including those from the brewery across the street. The Arizona Inn has harmonious piano music to soothe you as the evening draws to a close. The Cascade Lounge is also great for enchanting piano music.
