HONOLULU, Hawaii is a place abundant with nightlife opportunities. Choices range from over two hundred Bars and Grills, Irish Pubs, Sports Clubs, Nightclubs, Karaoke Lounges, Saloons, Taverns, Cafes and Comedy Clubs. But there's more. There are blocks devoted to Oriental Cocktail Lounges with Asian hostesses who will serve your drink and keep you company. Televisions display sports programs and lots of barbeque meat, Asian style, is served for free.
There are ethnic restaurants galore that serve a variety of delicacies on their menus along with live band entertainment. You can pick from Hawaiian foods, Chinese, Japanese, American, Filipino, Vietnamese, Thai, Mediterranean, Italian, Mexican, and the list goes on. If you havent attended a Hawaiian Luau yet, its a must. Youll love the Polynesian Show that follows the feast; but be careful of the raw fish, crab and squid that are served up with the poi (Ill let you discover what that is for yourself). You may want to go for a burger before the show, just in case, the ethnic food is too challenging for you. Some of the local lounge acts are part Hawaiian, and part Reggae, what the locals call, "Hawaiian Reggae". The performers are Island Favorites; many of the award winning groups that write, sing and record their own music. Occasionally, the Waikiki Shell, Kapiolani Park Bandstand, the Aloha Stadium and the Blaisdell Auditorium have concerts performed by local artists and mainland/international celebrities.
Honolulu even has its own Hawaii Opera House that performs at the Neil Blaisdell Auditorium. The Honolulu Symphony, Movie Theatres, Live Theatre performances and Dance performances all have a regular schedule that can be readily accessed through the two main newspapers on Oahu in the Island Life sections of The Honolulu Advertiser and the Star Bulletin. Game Houses that range from Billiard & Dart Rooms to D&Bs are located in Movie Malls, and on downtown corners; anywhere where passersby on their way to a bar or grill can make a quick stop and get in a few games while they wait for their pals to arrive. Sometimes the evening plan is changed when the group decides gaming is more their pleasure.
The fun really starts when an establishment combines a delicious menu with live entertainment, dancing games and Karaoke singing. Several of these exist all around Honolulu; just follow the signs; banners and ads displayed on the outside of the establishments. Waikiki, the town that never sleeps, is the Hotel & Spa/Nightclub district of Honolulu that is along the coastline on the South end of the island of Oahu. Most of the places that were mentioned earlier are located in and around this area. But if you would like your fun contained in one are you would book a hotel and bounce around the various nightclubs, hotel and beachside lounges, or just hang out at the beach. Unfortunately, alcohol is prohibited on the beach, but there are plenty of beachside cabana or cafes that overlook the ocean and one can get the same experience. In Honolulu, the choices are endless for the local and visitor alike. Whether your tastes are ethnic, sporty, romantic, or wild, Honolulu has it all.
