Raleigh is a delight for people who love wonderful meals and who collect memoirs of their special dining experiences. Raleigh is home to international cuisine and has many excellent representatives of American cooking styles as well.

Fine dining is often used as a marker of standards that restaurants in a city can achieve. The Bloomsbury Bistro on W. Whitaker Mill Road can do justice to Raleighs fair name. The menu is written in a manner that will leave you secretly wanting to make a meal just of them. It is safe to pick one at random for they are excellent, each one of them. There is one vegetarian selection amongst meats and seafood for the main course. It is substantial and inviting though the Chef is accommodating in fixing specials as per your wont. Desserts include fresh fruit and sorbet calorie savers, but can get as wicked as you are willing.

The Second Empire is another fine dining option in Raleigh. The Dodd-Hindsdale House on Hillsborough Street was built in the late 19th century, and sets the tone for an exceptional meal. The exposed brick walls of the bar lend tavern-like warmth to your welcome. You can also choose to have your drink in the verdant surroundings of the covered patio. The main dining room is grand with large windows and a high ceiling. It sets appropriate stage for the banquet you will await with anticipation. The menu changes every month but a focus on fresh ingredients is constant. The wine list is as dignified as you would expect. An outing to the Second Empire will transport you back to an era of grace and will leave an imprint of pleasure in your memory.

The Angus Barn on Glenwood Avenue is a Steak House worthy of the most demanding beef lovers affections. A complimentary relish tray makes for a dignified wait to be seated and speaks volumes of the owners passion to serve. You will be comforted to know that the restaurant ships in bulk quantities of meat and holds them for 3 weeks for safety, before carving and use for guests. Suffice it to say that the menu leaves no room for disappointment and the matching wines have been selected with aplomb.

Margauxs on Creedmoor Road offers Mediterranean cuisine in a bright and relaxing atmosphere. The menu is very fluid but always fresh with both ideas and ingredients, so it is possible to be a frequent and regular patron. Vegetarian entrees and a separate menu for young ones are thoughtful touches that make you feel especially welcome. The restaurant is open just for dinner and reservations are advised as it has a fair name far and wide.

The Jamaica Market Place is a capital choice for Caribbean aficionados. Not only are the food and drinks authentic but you can shop for ingredients and music from the sun kissed islands as well. A visit to this restaurant and store complex transports you to Jamaica and back for an exhilarating interlude.

The Casa Carbone in the Oak Park Shopping Center brings a piece of Italy to Raleigh. Vegetarian fare, salads and fresh fish features on the menu with the expected Pasta and Calzone. The wine list has been chosen with care and there are excellent desserts to round off a most delectable meal.

The Taj Mahal on North Boulevard Plaza is a good choice for Indian food as the extensive lunch and dinner buffets make it convenient for you to sample the many exotic offers from all corners of the sub-continent. Excellent vegetarian dishes are a special treat as are the colorful desserts.

Kanki is a house of Japanese Steaks and Sushi. You can experience the culinary excellence of this great land with artful and fresh presentations of meat, seafood and vegetables. There are some outstanding desserts as well and the service is attentive and immaculate in the best Japanese traditions.

St. Jacques offers gourmet French cuisine in a leisurely but very stylish manner. It is a tribute to the spirit of Raleigh that fosters indigenous expression of so many rich cultures. The owner is from the South of France and has imprinted the signature of his ancestors on the menu and wine collection. His team and he work hard to make your visit a long lasting and pleasurable memory.
