Pennsylvania is a state with a little bit of everything. Majestic mountain ranges, winding rivers, large forests, and a multitude of lakes can all be found there. Pennsylvania has it's own version of the Grand Canyon, breath-taking fall foliage, and sprawling fields and valleys. The summers in Pennsylvania are hot and sometimes humid. The winters are cold and snowy. Despite the vast temperature shifts, camping and other outdoor activities can be found year round throughout the state. If you are interested in camping sites in Pennsylvania, there are many that can accommodate whatever you are looking for in an outdoor vacation. Here are just a few examples of great camping sites from different parts of Pennsylvania.
World's End State Park / Northeastern PA: This campground is located in Sullivan County along Loyalsock Creek. They have 19 cabins that are available for use year round. They have 70 sites for tents and RV camping, half of which have electricity. Restrooms and fresh water are available. This park has a store that offers food and some camping supplies. It is open during the summer months. There is a small dam in Loyalsock Creek that allows for a swimming area. There is a designated picnicking spot located upstream from the swimming area. Here you can also hunt, fish, hike, and go white water rafting. During the winter months this park is great for snowmobile riding and cross-country skiing. Indian Rock Campgrounds / South-central PA: Indian Rock is located near York PA. Nearby attractions include Hershey Park, Pennsylvania Dutch Country, and the Appalachian Trail. They offer 40 camping sites with electricity, water, and restrooms available. They have a store for your camping needs. Leashed pets are welcome at this campground. Raccoon Creek State Park / Southwestern PA: Raccoon Creek State Park is 7,572 acres in size with a 101-acre lake. Located in Beaver County, this park is open year round. The tent and RV sites in this park are available mid April through mid October. There are 172 sites, each with its own picnic table and fire ring. Ten cabins are available for the entire year, each with electricity, heat, and up to three bedrooms. For the winter months, this park offers rustic sites but they may be inaccessible during times of extreme weather. The camping area has a playground and many bathhouses with hot showers available. Raccoon Creek State Park also offers five picnic areas each with grills, restrooms and running water. They also have a recreational hall. On Raccoon Lake you can fish for bass, perch, walleye, sunfish, bluegill, and trout. The lake has two boat launches and canoes, rowboats, kayaks, and paddle boats for rental. There is an 800-foot beach that is open during the summer months between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Lifeguards are on site from eleven in the morning until seven at night. Family Affair Campgrounds / Northwestern PA: Family Affair is a privately owned campground located near the town of North East, PA. They offer 195 campsites with two and three way hook-ups. Picnic shelters, restrooms, and showers are available throughout the park. They also have cabins that can sleep up to six people comfortably. These cabins have electric light, a porch, a picnic table, and a fire ring. This campground is just five miles from Lake Erie and offers 66 acres of family fun. They have two swimming pools, hiking trails, a basketball court, miniature golf, and a softball field. They also offer paddleboats, fishing at a private lake, and train rides. They have shower facilities and a camp store. Religious services are available each Sunday. Pets are allowed at this park, but there are some restrictions. Call ahead for more information. Buttonwood Campgrounds / Central PA: This park is near Lewistown and also near Penn's Caves and Knoebel's Grove Amusement Park. Buttonwood offers 79 different camping sites, each with electricity, water, and sewage. They have five cabins that sleep up to four people. The cabins feature a porch, showers, a kitchenette, a picnic table, and a fire ring. They have a game room, heated pool, picnic pavilion, and a camp store. They also offer fishing, outdoor sports, and a playground. Pets are welcome here. They have restrooms throughout the park, a laundromat, and showers. Buttonwood has kayak and canoe rentals and a livery service. There is a boat launch nearby along with great bass fishing, golf, and miniature golf. The mailing address for this park is P.O.
