The province of Saskatchewan is located near the center of Canada, sandwiched between Alberta and Manitoba with the Northwest Territories making up its northern boundary. This province of nearly 1 million people is known for its wide array of parks and lakes, as well as historical sites. Whether you decide to visit the capital city of Regina or venture into some of the province's other regions, Saskatchewan presents endless possibilities for visitors.



Historical/Cultural Attractions



- The Tunnels of Moose Jaw are located in the Southwest region of the province. This is the place to visit for you if you want to travel through the historical tunnels connecting secret rooms and buildings below the city of Moose Jaw. These tunnels served two purposes in Moose Jaw history: to allow passage for bootleggers including Al Capone in the 1920s and to allow for Chinese immigrants to enter Canada around 1900. This award winning tourist attraction has two 50-minute tours each covering one of the above topics. Live actors and animatronic characters lead you through this interactive and informative tour through Saskatchewan's underground history.


- The Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Regina is a must-see for anyone interested in the natural, cultural, and ethnographic history of the province. The museum offers visitors 3 permanent galleries (First Nations, Life Sciences, and Earth Sciences), as well as a rotating selection of temporary exhibits that feature everything from ancient artifacts from the region to works by provincial artists. A tour through the entire museum can keep you entertained and learning from morning through afternoon.


- Royal Canadian Mounted Police Museum C The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is one of the most recognized police forces in the world. At this museum in Regina, you can take an historical tour through more than 125 years of RCMP training and service. Visitors to the museum can view artifacts from former RCMP forces as well as view historical documents and materials. The museum campus is home to the training academy, allowing visitors to see where the officers learn the skills to become members of Canadas premier police force. Another must-see at the museum is the Sergeant Majors Parade held on weekday afternoons in front of the museum or in the Drill Hall (in case of rainy or winter weather). Museum staff will instruct visitors when the parade will take place, as well as where to line up to see it.



Outdoors

- Fishing at Boundary Dam Reservoir is an experience you will not have any other place in Canada. Located in the southeast region of the province approximately 16 miles from the US/Canada border is Boundary Dam -- Canadas only Largemouth Bass fishing areas. While the bass are a big draw for fishing enthusiasts, the reservoir also is home to other species including perch and walleye. Also of note: Boundary Dam also is home to a power station. Regularly scheduled tours allow visitors to learn how coal is mined and turned into electricity.


- If you are looking for one of the worlds best canoe and camping routes, youll want to take a paddle along the Churchill River. When you count the inlets, this course will take you across the entire province!


- Prince Albert National Park is a 3,875 square kilometer park established in 1927. Here you will find a unique landscape that was formed from the glaciers moving through this area combined with some very diverse plant and animal life. Nearly 200 different species of birds consider Prince Albert National Park home including: white pelicans, loons, and eagles. Prince Albert also is the only Canadian National Park that can boast about having a free-range herd of Plains Bison. The park offers wonderful camping, hiking, canoeing and fishing. Additionally, Waskesiu (the only community within the park boundaries) offers typical tourist-friendly town accommodations such as hotels, cabins, restaurants, and recreation areas.

In addition to the ideas listed above, a trip to the Saskatchewan Science Centre is a treat for families traveling with children. No matter what your age, you are bound to learn something at this huge hands-on museum in Regina. Learn how bubbles are made, find out what life is like on Mars, or even take a climb on the Centres climbing wallC all under one roof! Also be sure to check out the Centres IMAX theatre where you can view movies that make you a part of the action.
