Austin is one of those rare cities that make you feel like youre home. People who visit want to stay and people who have already made Austin their home never want to leave. Its known for its live music scene, being the Live Music Capital of the World, as well as its lakes, its scenery, its quaint small-town-feel charm and its welcoming people. Paramount Theatre

Over 80 years old and still the Paramount Theatre is repeatedly voted the best theatre space in Austin, despite its intense competition. Since its inception, the Paramount stage has been graced with the likes of the Marx Brothers, Orson Welles, Houdini, Sarah Bernhardt and many Texas favorites like Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett. Home to theatrical productions as well as cinema, the Paramount has also hosted Hollywood-style movie premieres, classic movies and many touring Broadway productions. Upon entering the Paramount, the visitor will be overwhelmed with its classic splendor. Whether you watch a movie or Broadway play here, the Paramount is a must on your Austin to-do list.

Congress Avenue Bats

If you want to see a spectacular nighttime event and are in town between March and November, drive down to the Congress Avenue Bridge any night and just wait. Come dusk, it is like a scene out of the pages of a National Geographic article as over one million Mexican bats emerge from their daily resting spaces underneath the bridge and fly overhead for their nightly forage. This is definitely a must-see while in Austin.

Sixth Street

If you live in Texas or have ever heard of Austin, chances are youve also heard of 6th street. 6th street is a long avenue of nightclubs, bars, restaurants and live music that is guaranteed to be hopping most nights. If dancing and music is your scene, then take a stroll down 6th street.

Town Lake

For your morning jog or bike ride, get down to Town Lake in downtown Austin. Miles of hike and bike trails abound as well as beautiful picnic areas, spots to watch live music and paddle boat or canoe rental areas. If youre an avid runner, chances are there will be a 5 or 10k happening here on most weekends.

Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum

Also located in downtown Austin, near the University of Texas campus is the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. If you want to know any and everything about Texas, this is the place to be. People say that in Texas everything is bigger and this museum is no exception. Its three floors are home to an IMAX theatre, interactive exhibits, a caf and special effects presentations. Especially if you have kids, the Bob Bullock Museum is a great place to visit.

University of Texas at Austin Campus

You may be wondering why you should visit a university campus on your trip to Austin. Unlike many colleges, the UT campus is like a city in and of itself. It houses museums like the Ransom Center that proudly hosts both the first photograph (an 1826 French photo of a window view) and the Gutenberg Bible. On the UT campus, you can also visit the UT Clock Tower where Charles Whitman gunned down 13 people in the UT Tower Massacre of 1966.
