A trip to Denver can take you back to the Old West or forward to the future of technology. Although its beginnings were sparked by the Gold Rush, Denver still finds itself a part of todays riches with its silicon community of businesses and professionals. Attractions and things to do in Denver reflect this co-existence of past and present, with everything from history museums to shopping hubs.

HISTORY

Molly Brown House Museum

The unsinkable Molly Brown C the outspoken Denver socialite who survived the sinking of the Titanic C lives on with the preservation of her home. Galleries and tours immortalize her colorful life, which went beyond Titanic fame (an early feminist, Molly ran for U.S. Senate before women were even allowed to vote for her). Sticklers for history will also appreciate the actual house C every detail was restored to near-authentic condition.

Colorado History Museum

Colorado is the setting of the majority of western lore, and the Colorado History Museum is the place to relive it. Whether you are interested in the nomadic life of fur trappers, the culture of Indian tribes, or the high-noon showdowns, this museum can enlighten even the clumsiest cowboy.

OUTDOORS

Washington Park

Located in the one of Denvers nicest neighborhoods, Washington Park has beautiful views of the mountains in the distance. The park perimeter is 2.5 miles, and the grassy interior is a popular place for locals to take their dogs.

Denver Botanic Gardens

The Denver Botanic Gardens have some of the most diverse plants in the United States, and an afternoon there is sure to be a soothing experience. Almost a quarter of a million flowers are planted each year from countries all over the world. Additionally, the Denver Botanic Gardens have a conservatory, an alpine garden, and a Japanese Tea Garden.

The Urban Farm

This 23-acre farm was developed to educate children about agriculture and the environment. A non-profit organization, The Urban Farm has tours, classes, and urban trail rides for both children and their parents. Going beyond plants and animals, The Urban Farm uses nature as a creative way to impart life lessons to children.

SHOPPING

Tattered Cover Book Store

One of todays true independent stores among the chains, the Tattered Cover manages to maintain personality while still being an excellent bookstore. Whether it is the 3-D mural at the entrance or the strategically-placed lists of award-winning books guiding you to great literature, this bookshop is worth the visit.

16th Street Mall

This pedestrian mall is the latest in outdoor urban planning. A mixture of cafes, restaurants, office buildings, and popular retail stores line the several-block walk through this part of downtown Denver. And if you become tired after a day of shopping and food, a shuttle bus runs the length of the mall to take visitors back to their starting points.

Larimer Square

Whereas 16th Street Mall is much like an outdoor version of a traditional mall, Larimer Square resembles a more unique urban shopping and dining district. Restored Victorian buildings and specialty boutiques make up this shopping experience, and concept restaurants comprise the nightlife.

ENTERTAINMENT

Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium

Catching a home game is always an authentic way to experience the city. With official Broncos merchandise and over 20 different food retailers, Mile High Stadium is a high-altitude treat.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Fifteen miles outside of Denver is one of the most unique concert settings. Created by nature and surrounded by two 300-foot monoliths (Ship Rock and Creation Rock, in geological terms), any concert in this amphitheatre is sure to be memorable.

Mile High Brewing Company

Located in Lower Downtown (a.k.a. LoDo), Mile High Brewing Company is both a brewery and a winery. Tours of both facets of their trade are available.

Additionally, Denver and the surrounding area are known for the many brewpubs and larger breweries C dont restrict yourself to just one.

MUSEUMS

Denver Art Museum

The museum has a variety of permanent collections as well as special exhibits. Its collection of American Indian art is their most notable asset, and its Spanish Colonial and Columbian work are also noteworthy. Additionally, the Denver Art Museum offers many family and children programs.

Denver Museum of Nature and Science

For a more down-to-earth day, try the Denver Museum of Nature and Sciences, where you can learn about your surroundings from the Milky Way to the minerals in your front yard. This museum also has an IMAX theatre and a planetarium.

Children's Museum of Denver

Built for children of every age group, the Childrens Museum of Denver is a hands-on experience. From fire engines to basketball hoops, assembly lines to an interactive grocery store, the museum operates from a childs perspective. Whether you are a young business traveler looking to taste some local brews or a family with three youngsters, Denver has something for all its visitors. As with any vacation plans, be sure and confirm that the attraction is open during the time you wish to go.
