The Republic of Estonia will provide you with a unique vacation experience that you wont soon forget. Estonia wont be hard on the pocketbook and will provide you with different and exciting activities youll definitely want to write home about.
The best time to plan your trip to Estonia is in the spring and summer months. But, if you love skiing, skating or fishing, you must take your vacation during the winter. Estonia is great for winter sports but the number of daylight hours is much shorter during the colder months.
There are two great festivals in Estonia that you might want to plan your vacation around. The All-Estonian Song Festival and the Baltika Folk Festival only come around every few years, so check with your local travel agent for dates. You will experience a week long music, dance and celebration at these festivals. So, if youre planning a trip to Estonia, dont forget to see when these festivals are going to occur.
If you visit during the summer months, you will find that Estonia offers an endless array of activities for you to choose from. There are quite a few festivals during this time that celebrate everything from Estonias culture to a famous local ghost!
Take a trip to Estonias capital, Tallinn to see how it looked in the 14th and 15th century. You will see medieval architecture, cobbled streets and carefully preserved buildings in this part of historic Estonia. It will be like you were transported into the past when you step onto these streets. You will find shops, cathedrals, parks and museums in this part of Estonia that will delight tourists and teach them about the Estonian people.
If youve ever wanted to see waterfalls, rivers, lakes, thick forests, 18th century houses and coastal bluffs all in one spot, search no longer. The Lahemaa National Park of Estonia can offer all of this to you and more. Its the largest national park in Estonia and a glimpse into paradise. The untouched beauty of this park is unparalleled and simply cant be missed. So, take the bus to get to this park if you dont have a rental car. You wont be sorry.
If you love nature, wildlife and all things outdoors, you must go to Abruka in Estonia. Its a rugged island that isnt home to much other than animals and birds. The botanical-zoological reservation is on this island but its only open during the summer. Its definitely an educational and fun stop that shouldnt be skipped if you have the time.
Another national park youll want to visit in Estonia is Sooma. Though, if youre easily scared, you might want to skip this one. The only way to get through this park is by canoeing through the bog and local legend has it that witches enjoy the same thing.
Canoeing is a big sport here in Estonia, so you wont find a shortage of places to partake in this activity. Bird watching is also popular as well as sailing, hiking, snowboarding and rowing. Estonia has a lot of history and many educational museums and buildings for you to visit. Its definitely an outdoorsy type of place though, so if youre an active person that enjoys new and exciting challenges, a trip to Estonia is definitely for you.
