Are you planning a trip to Los Angeles, California? Fasten your seatbelts, both literally and figuratively, as L. A. has more to do than anyone can possibly do in just a few days. Are you ready? Here we go!
Much of Los Angeles was built on movie dreams. Go to Graumans Chinese Theatre in Hollywood and check out famous stars footprints. Do you have the same size shoe as John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, Tom Cruise, Elizabeth Taylor, or Judy Garland? How about the same size nose as Jimmy Durante or Bob Hope? Go to the Hollywood Entertainment Museum in Hollywood or the Museum of Television in Beverly Hills to take a peek at Hollywoods past. Take a tour and see Hollywood stars homes, both old and new.
How do you like amusement parks? Universal Studios, in Universal City, combines movie making and terrifying rides. It also has restaurants, shopping, and night life on into the evening. You can see old movie sets, see how special effects are done, and maybe even see an off-duty movie star. Want to see Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, or Goofy? Go to Disneyland, in Anaheim, and do not forget to check out Disneys California Adventure Park. There are plenty of clubs and restaurants to enjoy after leaving the park. Still havent had enough? Go visit Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts Gang at Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park. All of the parks have special events from time-to-time, so be sure to look online to see what is going on while you are visiting.
Southern California is well known for its beaches. Go to Santa Monica Beach and take a stroll on the famous Santa Monica Pier. Are you looking for more entertainment? Take a trip to Venice Beach where you can wander from vendor to vendor to buy tee shirts for gifts, to buy handmade jewelry, or to have your fortune told. Watch magicians perform tricks or watch a juggler working with knives. Listen to street performers sing and play instruments from all over the world.
Are you interested in the history of Los Angeles? Visit Olvera Street. You will find the Avila House, built around 1818, and the oldest existing brick building in Los Angeles, the Pelanconi House, built around 1855. The street is a testament to the Hispanic origins of Los Angeles. Vendors sell traditional items including pi?atas and Mexican candies. You can watch a glass blower make a figurine, and then buy the figurine while it is still warm. Sit outside at one of the Mexican cafes and eat some flan, a custard desert, while listening to strolling mariachis singing of love lost.
Need more history, as in prehistoric? Are you interested in extinct animals? Go to the La Brea Tar Pits, on Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles and see tar pits where scientists are still searching for fossilized bones of animals, including mammoths and saber toothed tigers. The Page Museum, adjacent to the Tar Pits, has exhibits describing the Los Angeles area as it was thousands of years ago. While you are on Wilshire Blvd., check out the Peterson Car Museum. While cars are not prehistoric, they are an integral part of the development of Los Angeles. Besides, the cars there are very, very cool!
Who can go to Los Angeles without shopping? Wander the world famous Rodeo Blvd. in Beverly Hills. Go to the Santa Monica Promenade on Third Street and Broadway, a short walk from the Santa Monica Pier. Check out the Beverly Center on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles. All three locations offer different shopping and dining experiences.
Los Angeles has something to offer everyone. Be prepared to experience a diversity of activities. From movie stars to the beach to shopping, L. A. has it all.
