Louisiana has many adventurous activities available to offer anyone C from a single person to a family with children. Activities available in Louisiana range from swamp tours to shopping at outlet malls. No matter the interest, there is something for everyone in Louisiana.
When people think of Louisiana, some of the first things that come to mind are swamps and alligators. Swamp tours bring the great outdoors closer to the tourist. Whether taking a walking tour or an airboat ride, the tourist will have the opportunity to see alligators, snapping turtles, water moccasins and even blue crabs. Just remember that all these animals do bite and are not in a zoo where the tourist is protected from them and vice versa. Also, the swamp has a multitude of plant life that is awesome to behold, such as beautiful Cypress trees.
Rare white alligators, while not often observed on swamp tours, are found at a Louisiana zoo. These alligators as well as many other animals not necessarily seen on a day-to-day basis are easily observed at the zoos. These zoos are located in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Monroe and Alexandria. They are a wonderful place to visit.
If you are looking for water, Louisiana is the state for you. With water found all over the state, fishing and /or boating opportunities are plentiful from the Gulf of Mexico to Toledo Bend to the Mississippi River and all points in between. Louisiana has many lakes, rivers, bayous and other bodies of water that are just waiting for whatever water activity you have in mind. Fishing charters are available as well as cruises for people interested in the water, but do not have an interest in fishing. Louisiana also has a water park for the young at heart to enjoy.
Louisiana has some 67 museums. These museums hold memories of Louisianas history as well as memories and history that could be from anywhere in the US. Exhibits in these museums cover subjects such as firefighting, Mardi gras, petroleum, railroads, the military, dolls and many more. Louisiana has childrens museums where children are encouraged to touch the exhibits. Louisiana even has a voodoo museum.
Want your kids to experience the good ole days? Take them to a village where they can learn how to make soap, syrup and horseshoes, like at the turn of the century. In these villages, tourist will also learn how the early settlers lived. For this experience, Acadian Village and Vermilionville in Lafayette as well as Traders Rendezvous Frontier Village in Bentley are the places to go. After taking this trip back in time, fast forward the kids back to the present by taking them for lunch at the Hard Rock Caf, Planet Hollywood or the House of Blues in New Orleans.
Hunting season is open for eight months out of the year in Louisiana for game animals. Deer, quail, dove, teal, rail, gallinule, turkey, duck, snipe and woodcock are just some of the excellent hunting offered here. Louisianas Wildlife Management Areas, maintained by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, are the perfect places to experience the thrill of the hunt. However, if your idea of hunting includes antiques, then Louisiana can aid in tracking down that perfect piece of furniture. With numerous antique shops, malls, and villages, the antique hunter can have a great experience.
Louisiana is a state full of blooms and plants. With many gardens and national forests, the beautiful native plants in Louisiana are readily available in their natural glory. The American Rose Center is in bloom from April to November, while Hodges Gardens is in bloom all four seasons. While at Hodges Gardens, be sure to visit the waterfalls and rocky bluffs, which add to the beauty of the greenery. Kisatchie National Forest is the perfect place to witness wildflowers in bloom. Louisiana has many more garden attractions, more than likely there is one in the area you are visiting.
If golf is your sport of choice, Louisiana has many great courses. Playing golf year round is one of the great reasons to visit Louisiana. Enjoy courses designed by Arnold Palmer, Robert Trent Jones or Jack Nicklaus while playing on an 1812 battlefield or at a plantation. If golf is not your sport, Louisiana offers many more from football to college basketball to horseracing and stockcar racing.
Of course, Louisiana is brimming with history. Civil War buffs will spend hours in Louisianas museums, research centers, battlefields and plantations. While in Louisiana, visit the location of the longest siege in American military at Port Hudson or Mansfield where the Confederate forces crushed the Union forces.
Louisiana has many things to do, from eating to playing golf on to letting your imagination take you away while visiting a historical battlefield. There is something here for everyone, no matter his or her area of interest.
