Milwaukee, Wisconsin has lots of activities to do for people of all ages and backgrounds. Milwaukee is a melting pot of all kinds of cultural backgrounds and its attractions reflect that. Here are just a few of the many things to do while in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee has several different museums to choose from. The first is the Milwaukee Public Museum. This museum is much like other museums. It has pieces of history and other artifacts. There is also a special exhibit hall that houses specialty traveling exhibits when they come through town. Another museum is Discovery World Museum. This museum is a hands-on museum with lots of scientific exhibits for children to try out. There are also scientific experiment shows to watch. A third museum is the Milwaukee Art Museum. This museum has recently gone through some cosmetic changes and is one of the trademark sites in Milwaukee. It is also home to many different types of art from paintings to sculptures. Another one of Milwaukees museums is the Betty Brinn Childrens Museum. As the name states, this museum is geared towards children. This museum focuses on hands-on exhibits to help children in their development from working with others to fundamental skills. This museum was created to help even the low income families in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee is also home to Potawatomi Bingo and Casino. This Native American owned casino is located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. It offers daily bingo games at all hours of the day, slot machines, black jack tables, and more. They are continually expanding. This casino once housed only bingo and slot machines and has since expanded to almost a full service casino. There is also a restaurant inside and a theater with live shows ranging from music concerts to comedy acts.
Milwaukee also has the states largest zoo. This zoo has a wide variety of animals from the African plains to the mountains of the United States. There are animals to meet everyones needs. There is also a live seal show and an exhibit hall with a new exhibit every year. The zoo also has a train that tours the whole park, a tram that also offers a guided a tour and a merry go round for the youngsters. There is a bird building, a reptile building and an aquatic room. There is something for everyone to see at the zoo.
Right on the Lakefront, you will find the Summerfest grounds. Summerfest is an annual festival that last for 10 days in late June to early July. This festival is geared more towards the adult crowd and even better, the twenty something crowd. It consists of many music acts each day and lots of beer available to drink. The Summerfest grounds are also home to many different ethnic festivals throughout the summer. African World Fest celebrates the African heritage. Likewise, there is Asian Moon Fest, Festa Italiana, German Fest, Pridefest, and more. Also in the summer around mid-July and near the Summerfest grounds is the annual Circus Parade. This includes everything from elephants to circus wagons.
For the adult crowd, Milwaukee is home to Miller Brewing Company and also several smaller breweries. Miller Brewing offers daily tours of their breweries which begin with a short video on how Miller Brewing came to be. It then works into a walking tour of the whole beer making process. At the end of the tour, each member of the tour age 21 or older is allowed to taste test several of the beers made by Miller Brewing.
Milwaukee is also home to the famous Harley Davidson. Each summer, hundreds of bikers come through Milwaukee just because it is home base to Harley Davidson. On the big anniversaries, there are citywide celebrations in which thousands of bikers from across the United States come to celebrate the anniversary. There are also tours available at the Harley Davidson plant.
Milwaukee also is the home to several sports teams. They have an MLB team, the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers can be seen playing in the new Miller Park field built in 2000. This baseball field sports a retractable roof for safe play in any weather. There is also an NBA team in Milwaukee. This team is the Milwaukee Bucks. They play downtown in the Bradley Center. Also at the Bradley Center are the Milwaukee Admirals. This hockey team is in the AHL, so they are not incredibly well known. Recently moved to the US Cellular Arena is the Milwaukee Wave, the indoor soccer team. This sport has picked up in popularity in Milwaukee especially since that team is one of the best in Milwaukee. During the off season, they also form the Milwaukee Wave/United which is the outdoor version of the soccer team.
So as you can see, there is plenty to do while in Milwaukee. There is anything from sports to beer to museums. You can be sure that you will find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
