Baden-Baden is located at the northern edge of the Black Forest and has been dubbed the summer capital of Europe since the mid 19th-century when Queen Victoria and Napoleon lean took vacations there. Along with impressive springs, a grandiose promenade and pastel houses, the area offers hiking trails, bike paths, and a plethora of spas. While you are in Baden-Wurttemberg you will want to check out The Bodensee, Lake Constance, or the Swabian Sea. It is Germanys largest lake and is the closest a visitor can come to the Riviera. The best view of this impressive body of water is on the cornice road that follows the German shore. Here you will find cloisters of resorts and exclusive beaches. There are plenty of ferries to take you to the various hot stops along the banks. You can enter Austrian and Switzerland territory by this lake as well.

If you have time to take a scenic trip, check out the Alpine Road. The German Alpine Road, or Deutsche Alpenstrasse, is one of the continents oldest and most scenic routes. It is etched into and follows along the Bavarian Alps, which is the mountain range that impressively guards Germany on its eastern side. The route weaves through quaint towns, past impressive ancient castles, and journeys into mountain top cities and villages. The road goes through Garmisch, which was the host of the 1936 Olympic Games. Here you will also find Zugspitse, Germanys highest mountain. You can reach the top of the mountain via channel via cog railway. Along the Alpine road you will find Lake Konignesse as well. Since mountains surround this mysterious lake the only way to catch a glimpse is by boat. Take a day to explore this natural and untouched wonder. If you want more routes to follow in Germany you will find them. The Romantic Road is located in Bavaria as well. Romantische Strasse is over one hundred and fifty miles long, stretching from Wurzburg down to Fusseen. It is on the border of Austria and Germany. It received its name as a result of the quaint and medieval towns and villages it passes through. Before you take either of these routes out of Bavaria be sure to stop in Bamberg, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Though it is small, Bambergs history is thick. At one point it was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. As a result there are many museums with interesting artifacts from the time of Heinrich and Bambergs rise to acclaim.

Munich is offer referred to as the other capital of Germany because of its thriving economy, its rich history, and perhaps most of all, its plethora of museums. The Alte Pinakothek, or the Old Picture Gallery, rivals the Louvre for high-style display. The museum dons an impressive collection of Renaissance art dating from the fourteenth to the eighteenth centuries. Here you can find DaVincis, "Virgin and Child and Titians great work, Crowing with Thorns. Durer, Hals, Memling, and Rubens are also featured artists. Admission is only four dollars. After vesting the Pinakothek you might want to check out the Deutsches Museum for a little comparison. This building is the oldest and most complete scientific and technical museum in the world. In addition to great museums, Munich offers many international restaurants and a barrage of drinking establishments. If you are lucky your trip may just have coincided with Oktoberfest, Munichs sixteen-day beer festival. Even if you didnt book your tickets around this autumn feast of plenty you will still be able to enjoy good beer in this metropolitan area.

Once you have visited the other capital of Germany, you will want to do a comparison with the real capital of Germany. Berlin is located in the central/north-east section of the country. It is, like most capitals, a large city with the normal makings of a metropolitan center. Like Munich, it has several museums. One of the finest is the Science Museum. It is a point of interest due to its interesting history. The Dahlem Museum and the Bode Museum were once considered separate buildings due to the political climate existing between the east and west during the Cold War era. After the Berlin Wall came down the museums forged into one building. This served as a symbol of Germanys reunification. While the Wall cannot be seen today, there is one section remaining; The Brandenburg Gate. This gate was actually created in the 18th century to celebrate a Prussian victory, but was used as part of the Berlin Wall. It still stands today. Frankfurt, Dresden, and Hannover are great cities to visit as well, should you have the time. Getting to Germany is quiet easy. Most international airlines will take you to one of Germanys many airports. Train, bus, and car service is also a possibility.
