Different from the rural parts of Ireland, Dublin is a bustling city filled with numerous tourist attractions. Having a variety of tourist sites, Dublin, Ireland, is a city that has something for everyone.

St. Patricks Cathedral

Steeped in history, St. Patricks Cathedral is a famous Dublin attraction that allows travelers to experience an important part of Irish history. Built in 1192, the church was originally erected in commemoration of St. Patrick, who is said to have administered his first baptism where the cathedral now stands. A symbol of religious reformation, St. Patricks Cathedral dually serves as a historic landmark and a working church with daily services and a choir. The grave of famous Irish writer Jonathan Swift is located near the entrance of the cathedral.

St. Stephens Green

St. Stephens Green is a beautiful Victorian Park that is centrally located in the heart of Dublin. Originally used to publicly punish criminals, the park was opened to the public in the late 1800s, as a result of a Parliament Act by Sir A.E. Guinness. After reopening the park, Guinness included a pond and gardens, which are perfect for quiet walks. The park consists of several statues, including memorials to poet W.B. Yeats and writer James Joyce, along with a bronze statue of three female figures called the Three Fates. Surrounded by beautiful Georgian architecture and free to the public, St. Stephens Green is the perfect place for spending leisurely time outdoors.

Guinness Storehouse

The Guinness Storehouse is known as Irelands most popular tourist attraction. By visiting the Guinness Storehouse, visitors can become familiar with all aspects of Guinness beer making. While on tour, visitors can learn the history of Guinness beer, along with the process of beer making by witnessing the brewing firsthand. At the end of the tour, guests can enjoy a complimentary pint of Guinness while witnessing a 360-degree view of the city in the sky bar called Gravity.

The Hapenny Bridge

Directly located over the River Liffey, the Hapenny Bridge is a cast-iron bridge that has become a symbol of Ireland. Originally built in 1816, the bridge was created as a pedestrian bridge. The Hapenny Bridge earned its nickname as a result of the halfpenny toll that users of the bridge were charged up until the year 1919. From the Hapenny Bridge, visitors to Dublin can enjoy beautiful views of the river and the city while walking along Dublins famous landmark.

Trinity College

Trinity College, the first university in Ireland, is a historical site that was once a center of religious conflict. Founded in 1592 and modeled after Cambridge University, the college originally only provided education to Protestants. In the late 1700s, Trinity College was theoretically opened to Catholics, but the religious conflict still ensued. With beautiful architecture complete with ivory-covered walls, Trinity College is a must-see for visitors to Dublin. Admission to the college is free and walk-ins are welcomed; however there is a small admission price for those wishing to see the famous attraction, the Book of Kells. The Book of Kells was written in 800 AD and contains the Latin text of the four gospels, along with intricate decorations. The Book of Kells is kept on display in the Old Library of Trinity College.

Dublin Castle

No trip to Dublin is complete without a visit to Dublin Castle; a 13th century Norman palace that was once the center of British rule in Ireland. While visiting Dublin Castle, tourists can view the State Apartments, which once served as the executive quarters of the Viceregal Court. The State Apartments now serve as a venue for important events, including Presidential inaugurations. While visiting the lower level of Dublin Castle, called the Undercroft, travelers can glimpse a portion of a Viking fortress. By visiting Dublin Castle, tourists can learn about the history of both the castle and Ireland.
