Anchorage is located amidst the Chugach Mountains and Knik and Turnagain arms of the Cook Inlet and holds adventure for young and old alike.


The Alaska Zoo is necessary see for any family with children. Although the zoo is small in comparison with other zoos, it is alive with caribou, sheep, wolves, moose, musk oxen, polar bears, grizzly bears, black bears, and mountain goats.




Imaginarium includes as childrens museum, aquarium, and Science museum. Here kids can get inside a bubble and gaze at stars, touch marine life in a saltwater tank, and discover many amazing and wonderful things about science and Alaska!


Anchorage has many museums:


? Anchorage Museum of History and Art is located downtown with exhibits of Alaskan culture and history.

? Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum offers exhibits of wrecked planes and a restored airplane hangar.

? Heritage Library and Museum houses many Alaskan paintings and cultural artifacts along with historical books on Alaskan history.

? Rasmussen Museum is a small history and art museum.

? Alaska Native Heritage Center is home to an educational learning experience and historic village. The native culture of Alaska is told through dancing, craft-making, storytelling, and simulated through life-sized villages.


Kincaid Park is a wonderful area to relax and sightsee. It has over 1400 wooded acres and trails. It is a perfect spot for a picnic. There is an interpretive visitors center and many trails where some of the Olympic tryouts were hosted. The grounds are also home to the Kincaid Outdoor Center, which is a 12,000-square-foot center built on land formerly used as missile site. There are spectacular views of the Cook Inlet and Alaskan Range.


Kid Zone is located in the Northway Mall. It has an indoor playground with tunnels, tubes, sand pits, climbing towers, slides, and much more. There are snack places nearby and it is open year around.


H2Oasis Indoor Water park features a 575-foot long Lazy River that circles the park. It has a mushroom water drop and a beached boat slide in the shallow are of the large wave pool that creates 3 to 4 foot waves. It has a childrens lagoon with a pirate chip that has seven slides. The master blaster water coaster is 505 feet long and 43 feet high. There are six water cannons in the park and a 23-foot high 150 foot long enclosed body slide dropping into a 3-foot splash pool.


Public Lands Information Center will allow your children to learn about the wildlife and wilderness of Alaska through a scavenger hunt.


Prince William Sound offers beautiful scenery: glaciers, waterfalls, bays, and fjords. Here you can sail, kayak or take a cruise. You will also see whales, sea lions, seals, bears, deer, and eagles.


Portage Glacier is a popular attraction located along the western side of Prince William Sound. Many times small icebergs wash up near the Visitor Center. The Portage Glacier can be seen from a boat tour of Portage Lake.


Earthquake Park shows the destruction caused by the Good Friday earthquake of 1964. A 9.2 earthquake shook the Cook Inlet and residential area on the bluffs above destroying the entire area. The area was eventually developed into the park of today with many monuments and plaques giving information of the earthquake.


McHugh Peak is a scenic area where you can view waterfalls, hike, and have a picnic. There is also a creek nearby where the salmon run up fish ladders.


Alpenglow At Arctic Valley is a great place for skiing, snowboarding, snow skating, and just about any type of snow activity. Hilltop Ski Area is another good place for snow sports.


Delaney Park Strip is site of the first airstrip in Anchorage and is now a park.
