San Antonio, Texas is one of those cities that makes it very easy for a family with kids to have a great time. From its rich history with a Latin flair to its penchant for catering to tourists, you and your family can visit and revisit San Antonio and never run out of family activities to do.
Sea World
When it comes to big name theme parks, San Antonio is not lacking. Open year-round with limited openings during the winter season, Sea World has educational attractions, fun, interactive shows and hair-raising rides. At the Dolphin Cove, kids can hear all about these beautiful creatures while feeding and touching them. Why not see if you can survive the 50mph speeds of The Great White roller-coaster ride? Of course, no trip to Sea World would be complete without seeing its star: Shamu. Make sure to sit in the first few rows at The Shamu Adventure to get splashed by Shamu and his killer whale friends!
Fiesta Texas
Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio is another theme park with tons of shows and rides. Get a two-day pass to make sure you get to see all of the attractions. Shows like Teatro Fiesta or The Rockville High Theater will have you on your feet dancing and singing along, while rides like The Rattler (a wooden roller coaster) and Poltergeist will have you clinging to your seat belts. For smaller kids, there are rides, too. Mini Tea Cup and Lil Bronco Buster are perfect for the smaller children in your family.
Witte Museum
The Witte Museums origins are inspiring to say the least. Founded by a high school teacher over 75 years ago, the beginnings of the museum were humble and many say the museum was created penny by penny. San Antonians took to the streets to collect money for their crusade and finally earned enough money to acquire its collection through bake sales and performances. Adults and children alike will marvel at the long term exhibits available at the Witte. Children will gasp at the giant footprint made by a plant-eating dinosaur. Here you can view a 2000 year old mummy and take a look at what the mummy actually looks like with an X-ray. The Bank of America Gallery Theater offers live performances, including Vaquero y Cowboy and A Gallery of Ghosts. If your kids love science, let them go into the H-E-B Science Treehouse where they can use pulleys to lift themselves up or create music with laser beams.
San Antonio Zoo
The San Antonio Zoo is one of the largest in the United States and exhibits almost 4000 animals ranging across 750 species. In addition to the many animals to view, the family can see a mini reproduction of an African watering hole, visit the circular Hixon Bird House, get a hands-on visit with one of the 40 lories from Austrailia, or see one of the 17 habitats of amphibians at The Pad. Right next door, visit Brackenridge Park and The Japanese Tea Gardens.
