If you are planning a family vacation, St. Louis, MO is a fantastic destination. St. Louis is especially kid friendly. Whether you love animals, educational hands-on museums, thrills or sports, St. Louis has it all. Big or small, there is something for everyone.
The animal lovers in your family will enjoy visiting the St. Louis Zoo. It is one of the best in the country, and best of all, admission is free. There is a Children's Zoo where your little ones can feed and pet a wide variety of animals. They can even slide through an otter pool. If you are into creepy, crawling, climbing and buzzing creatures, the Insectarium is something that you wont want to miss. Included in the Insectarium is a Butterfly Dome. Wearing bright clothing will attract the butterflies, and you just might have one land on you for a visit. Once you have walked and visited all the sites, sit back and relax on the Zoo train. It will take you on a leisurely tour around the park. One thing to remember; even though admission is free, you do have to pay for some of the exhibits.
Also for the animal lovers, there is Grant's Farm and Purina Farms. Grant's Farm is the home of the famous Clydesdale horses. The farm also has many other species of wildlife for you to observe, as well as a petting zoo for the children. Visitors at Purina Farms learn how animals and people relate. You can watch the sheep herding, and the kids will love getting a chance to hold the piglets and bunnies.
If your family enjoys museums, St. Louis has plenty to offer. The St. Louis Science Center has a planetarium where your children can see what it is like to live and work in space. There are plenty of hands-on activities, and big kids, as well as small, will marvel at touching a tornado and the animatronic dinosaurs. Visitors can see an Egyptian mummy at the St. Louis Art Museum, and the Missouri History Museum gives visitors a look back at how children lived in the old days. If this doesn't fill your quota for museums, try the Magic House, City Museum and Worldway's Children's Museum. These museums offer activities ranging from petting sharks, to exploring other countries and cultures, to allowing children's imaginations to run wild.
For the more adventurous in your family, Six Flags offers many rides guaranteed to thrill and chill. There is also a section for smaller children where they can meet their favorite Looney Toon characters and ride on rides that are more their size. Raging River Water Park boasts a wave pool, water slides, floating down Endless River, and much more.
The sports enthusiast in your family will want to visit Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Family Pavilion offers you a chance to try your hand at the batting cages. The Pavilion is open before and during the games. If it is baseball season, head to the stadium to root for the Cardinals. Who knows, you might get lucky and catch a foul ball.
