From the Rocky Mountains to the rushing rapids of the Colorado River, Colorado has a plethora of activates to offer locals, visitors, families, and singles. The scenery of Colorado naturally establishes a delightful backdrop of mountain majesty, open blue skies, luscious forests, winter wonderlands of snow, and summer fields of buttercups and daffodils. Yet, the beauty and splendor of Colorado does not merely reside in its natural beauty. Instead, its landscape sets up the perfect atmosphere for festivals of just about any kind. Festival goers can entertain themselves at numerous musically themed events, peruse a peach festival, stroll through floral displays at a wildflower festival, or a variety of other activities. Accordingly, four of the best (and often overlooked) Colorado festivals are showcased here because there just isnt enough time (and space) to do them all justice.

The Crested Butte Wildflower Festival is probably one of the most unique floral festivals in the state. Crested Butte is often noted as the wildflower capital of Colorado, and its location in the Rocky Mountains, with clear blue skies, and overflowing meadows of green grass and floral growth heighten its appeal to the traveler. Spending a day at the wildflower festival will relax you with its simplicity, and it will stimulate your senses from the floral aromas and the artistic displays for here, regionally renowned artists display floral arrangements, prints, and other artistic endeavors made from wildflowers. Hence, this festival is surely one that you will not want to miss, and it concludes with a walk into the flower fields to say goodbye to the flowers. It is truly a charming and unique event to indulge!

Another festival that is unique and delightful is the Palisade Peach Festival. This extravaganza is located at the Riverbend Park, in Palisade, and these peaches are no small feat. In 2003 Daily Sentenial readers voted them the best of the crop! Each year the festival lures visitors from all over the United States, with a top visitation number at 18,000, and activities include peach eating contests, pie contests, and celebrations for peach recipes and peach fruit inspired crafts center this country gathering.

For a more laid back festival you might try the Larimer County Wine Festival. Exotic, tasteful, and traditional wines are featured at this outdoor tasting feast, and be prepared to spend some money on many of the fine wines exhibited. Small and large domestic wines are featured, and as festival goers will tell you some of the best wines are the little known varieties from smaller vineyards particularly those of the southwest. So even if you are a fine wine connoisseur, relishing the exquisite tastes of European vintages, you should let yourself explore a more rustic side of wines and wine tasting for you will not be disappointed.

Finally, one of the most unique Colorado festivals resides in the town of Telluride. Telluride holds an annual mushroom celebration that educates the visitor while entertaining his or her taste buds. As the name of the festival attests Telluride Mushroom Festival it stands to entertain and educate its visitors on the wide array of mushrooms. Booths are set up with taste tests for the various kinds of mushrooms, poisonous mushrooms are discussed, and the medicinal uses for mushrooms are a focal point of the event. To make this event even more charming is its conclusion with the Mushroom Parade an whimsical parade where marchers dress up as mushrooms, fairies, and other magical creatures to honor the legacy of the mushroom.

With this information on these four Colorado festivals, arm yourself with good walking shoes, sunscreen, an appetite (because every good festival feeds its visitors), and an undoubting desire to have fun and find new adventures. In Colorado, the opportunities are endless, and the festivals are numerous and always fun.
