New Jersey has a vast variety of festival events happening throughout the year. Festivalgoers are bound to find a diverse range of festival activities suited to appeal to many tastes. Although not exhaustive, heres a sampling of some entertaining and worthwhile festivals to attend
Traditional Renaissance faire lovers will enjoy the NJ Family Medieval Festival held annually on the third weekend in October. Here you can eat, drink, and be merry in Medieval style. Attractions include fire breathers, puppet shows, costume contests, musicians, and games for kids. Held in historic Waterloo Village, this event has something for everyone.
The Wings N Water Festival is another great family fun festival held in Stone Harbor in September and sponsored by the Wetlands Institute. It has been named the Best Event in New Jersey by the Governors Conference on Tourism. At this wildlife arts festival, attendees can enjoy food, guided walks, and hands on adventures including kayaking, boat cruises, and fly casting clinics.
Those with a penchant for fine food and wine will delight in attending the annual Cape May food and wine festival where you can sample some savory foods including lobster cakes or sip and vote on your favorite wine. In addition, you can attend various food seminars, cooking classes and demonstrations. This event takes place annually in September.
Celebrate spring by the sea at the annual Cape May Spring Festival held in April. Festivities during this ten-day festival include private garden walking tours, house tours, brass band concerts, trolley rides, and tulip exhibits.
The city of Hoboken also hosts an annual spring art and music festival generally held during the month of May. This festival takes place on Washington Street to 7th Street and features over 300 fine artists and crafts persons. There is also a special childrens area where kids can have fun with sand-art, candle-art and spin-art projects as well as enjoy a moonwalk, the balloon slide, a magic show, a petting zoo, and much more.
Just when the things are heating up in the heart of summer, North Wildwood holds a fantastic barbecue championship and blues festival during the month of July. This festival attracts both national and regional talents. Top Blues musicians from around the country put on some of their best acts. This day offers terrific grilled foods and great music!
Another wonderful summer festival is the annual Boat Parade of Lights and Seafood Festival held in August at Tuckerton Seaport. Here, floating competitors dress up their vessels and compete in various categories for prizes.
For those, who dont mind braving the cold, a visit to the Scotch Plains winter festival is brimming with holiday excitement where many ice sculptures are on display; or head over to Ocean City to celebrate First Day at the Beach on January 1st where you can literally take an ice dip in the ocean, and enjoy the days activities including beach parties, games, and music.
So, be it winter, spring, summer or fall, theres a festival for anyone in New Jersey!
