If trophy bass is what you are searching for, then you need to visit beautiful, sunny Florida. With lakes and rivers traversing the whole state, it may be hard to decide where to begin. Everglades National Park has achieved the reputation as one of the finest areas in the country to bass fish. The Everglades is now the largest, remaining sub-tropical area on the mainland of America. The waters are remote, unspoiled and brimming with bass.
You can access one of the many canals from the bank, or you can go out with experienced guides deeper into the saw grass covered swamp. The Everglades includes canal system, small island areas, and back country grass flats.
The Everglades begins at the southern tip of Lake Okeechobee, and this lake is a bass paradise in itself. Lake Okeechobee is the largest fresh water lake in the United States that is located only in one state. It is approximately 37 miles long, 30 miles wide, and has an average depth of only 10 feet.
You can fish a variety of ways at Lake Okeechobee. There are narrow canals with lush vegetation, and there is open water. You can fish from the bank, put in at one of the public boat ramps, or charter a fishing boat. This lake boasts bass that often weigh over seven pounds consistently.
Near Orlando is located Lake Tohopekaliga, commonly known as Lake Toho, and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. This area is only minutes from Disney World, but offers anglers plenty of bass fishing opportunities, including trophy sized bass. Part of the lake is covered in maidencane grass and bulrush reeds, and the lake is virtually an unspoiled paradise.
The Kissimmee Chain of lakes begins the headwaters to the Everglades. Besides Lake Toho, other lakes in the chain include East Lake Toho, Lake Cypress, Lake Hatchineha, Lake Kissimmee, and Rosalie, Tiger, Jackson, Marion, and Walk-in-the-Water lakes. All of these lakes are connected by canals, and they are wonderful places to fish for bass. There are plenty of charter outfits to take you, or you can venture out on your own.
The Butler Chain of Lakes is located near Orlando, also. One of the best lakes for bass fishing here is the Johns Lake. Clear Lake is also known for its bass fishing.
Lake County is home to the Harris Chain of Lakes. All of the lakes in this chain join the Ocklawaha River through connecting canals. Anglers float along this river in search of bass and other varieties of fish. Lake Weir and Lake Kerr are also popular bass fishing spots in Marion County.
Ocala National Forest is a wonderful area for bass anglers. Several lakes just loaded with bass are located in this national forest. There are twenty-three undeveloped and developed fishing areas in the park. Salt Springs is one of the most popular areas. Salt water and fresh water are found here. Salt Springs empties into Floridas second largest lake, Lake George.
Lake George is another great lake for bass fishing. It is covered in extensive vegetation, creating an excellent habitat for bass and other varieties of fish. Jetties near the St. Johns entrance to the lake are considered one of the best places to cast your bait.
Bass fishing in Florida is abundant. From the Everglades to one of the many Florida lakes, bass fishermen easily catch their daily limits, and they keep coming back for more. If catching that trophy bass is your goal, youll definitely want to visit one of the premier bass fishing states in the country, Florida.
