Fun Things for Couples to do in Raleigh

Raleigh, North Carolina can be a beautiful weekend getaway for couples. With a wealth of cultural and interesting activities to partake in, couples can choose multitude events to do throughout the trip. Below are summaries of just a handful of the things to do in Raleigh that couples would enjoy.


CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM on West Martin Street is the only non profit art gallery of its kind in the area. It has national, regional, and local exhibitions of art and design. The Contemporary Art Museum also works toward the advancement of contemporary art in the Raleigh area.




MEREDITH COLLEGE GALLERIES on Hillsborough Street has three different exhibition areas and operates on a full year calendar program. Two of the exhibition areas are the Rotunda Gallery and the Frankie G. Weems Gallery. These two exhibition areas are part of a statewide competition and the Juried Meredith Student Exhibit. It is the hub of college galleries.


ARTSPACE, INCORPORATED on East Davie Street is located in downtown Raleigh. Located on Moore Square Art District, Artspace has 44 artists in a studio open to the public. There are educational services and theatrical performances from the Raleigh Ensemble Players. There is free parking as well.


NORTH CAROLINA MASTER CHORALE was formerly known as the Raleigh Oratorio Society. Its mission is to perform masterworks to promote choral art. It is a fine center of artistic expression and for the enrichment of the community.


OPERA COMPANY OF NORTH CAROLINA on Glenwood Avenue presents operatic performances to the area. It is the forefront of North Carolina appreciation of the opera and has wonderful facilities for productions. It is committed to attracting the finest talent to the area of Raleigh.


MORDECAI HISTORICAL PARK on Mimosa Street was formerly one of the largest plantations back in 1875. Today it is a park that incorporates the plantation home, Andrew Johnsons birth home, the 1847 St. Marks Chapel, herb garden, and close to other attractions. The herb garden itself was recreated from descriptions from an over 200 year old diary. Parts of the park are available to weddings and other functions, plus are only a mile from the downtown Raleigh.



HISTORIC RALEIGH TROLLEY TOUR recreates the 200 year history of getting around in Raleigh. What may seem like a trite activity is actually quite interesting to see the first mule drawn street cars in 1886 to other trolley cars that the city has seen. The tour is every Saturday from March to December. At the end of the trolley line is Old Lassiter Mill and Bloomsbury Park, two other stops in the site seeing of Raleigh.


SWIFT CREEK WETLANDS offers a glimpse of wet land life. There are so few wet lands in the United States left, and Raleighs Swift Creek Wetlands offers a vital contribution to the ecosystem. Youll have a personal tour of the area and is a wonderful wildlife adventure. Everything is provided in the tour, from equipment to paddling instruction. The only thing needed is basic swimming ability.


DURANT NATURE PARK AND CAMPBELL LODGE on Camp Durant Road has trails and outdoor programs in a 237 acre city parkland. There are five miles of hiking trails, two lakes, wildflower and fern garden. There is an abundance of trail makes and lists for birds and tree identification. Campbell lodge is the largest facility and offers a view of the Lower lake. It has two stone fireplaces and a 200 seat banquet room. It is truly a breathtaking getaway where roughing it is a pleasure.


NORTH CAROLINA MUSEUM OF ART on Blue Ridge Road has a collection of over 5,000 years of art. It is highly respected and known for its European paintings, and its pre-Columbian ceremonial art. Also housed are American paintings, sculpture, African and Oceanic art, Ancient art from Greek, Roman, and Egyptian eras, and Judaica.
