Whether a person is traveling solo or with a group, there is no better place to visit than the historic Richmond, Virginia. This capital city offers a unique blend of museums, historic sites and recreation. What are some of the top destinations that a person would want to visit if he or she was traveling alone?


Historic Richmond Tours. One of the best ways to see the city is through the Historic Richmond Tours. These guided tours give travelers an informative view of some of Richmond???s infamous landmarks. A person can opt for a walking or a van tour with pickup service at Richmond???s Visitor???s Center or various hotels located throughout the city.




Richmond City Hall Observation Deck. Located on the eighteenth floor of Richmond???s City Hall building is an observation deck that offers breathtaking views of the area. Visitors are able to see the James River, historic buildings and the grounds of the Capital.


Annabel Lee. This paddlewheel boat is designed in accordance with the 19th century riverboats that traveled along the river. The Annabel Lee can carry over 300 passengers on cruises of the James River. These narrated tours offer entertainment, meals as well as spectacular views of Richmond and historic plantations.


Bryan Park. Nature enthusiasts will want to visit this park that spans almost 280 acres. A variety of plant life is found in the park including azaleas and over 50,000 other plants. Most people believe, that due to the climate, it is better to visit the park in the late spring to appreciate the true beauty of the flora and fauna.


Valentine Museum. For a better understanding of Richmond, a person should visit the Valentine Museum. The museum gives an in depth view of Richmond history via a wide array of displays including local art and clothing as well as information on the area???s social, cultural and industrial past.


Virginia War Memorial. This touching tribute to Virginia???s war dead is open daily and free to the public. The marble walls are inscribed with over 12,000 war heroes from World War II to present. Other items of interest include an eternal flame that is never extinguished and displays of items from various battles.


Carytown. Carytown is near some of Richmond???s popular museums and historic landmarks. This section of the city offers visitors eight blocks of fine dining, exceptional shopping and a variety of theaters.


Hollywood Cemetery. Some of the most notable figures in American history are buried in Hollywood Cemetery. This is the final resting place for two United States Presidents, James Monroe and John Tyler, as well as a significant number of Confederate soldiers from the Civil War. Admission to the cemetery is free and tours are self guided via an audiovisual aide.


Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Even if a traveler isn???t an art connoisseur, he or she will appreciate the exhibits of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The museum has a large volume of displays which include paintings and sculptures from around the world, a collection of Faberge eggs and a variety of art from various cultures and eras.
