When most people think of Lake Tahoe, they think of a place where newlyweds and lovers go to sit by a warm fireplace and enjoy the company of each other. While this is certainly one side to Lake Tahoe, there is much more to this pristine and beautiful location.
In fact, Lake Tahoe can be just as exciting for the person traveling alone as it is for the couples in love. The area is much more than just its beautiful scenery, it is an area thriving with art, culture, and entertainment. There is so much to do in Lake Tahoe that traveling alone may be the only way to have time to see everything that is available.
For the individual who wants to experience a little culture, Lake Tahoe is home to many museums. The Lake Tahoe Historical Society Museum displays artifacts and photos from the beginning of the Lake Tahoe. Afterwards, the Genoa Courthouse Museum details even more of the history of this area. The building was a post office, county courthouse, and even a school. Today, its exhibits display the history and culture of Indian life.
If that is not enough history, then head over to the Roberts House Museum. This building, which was constructed in 1895, contains historical furniture from the early 1900s, as well as photographs and other changing exhibits. For a little broader look at life and culture, visit the Nevada State Museum. This museum which was originally the U.S. Mint, houses displays on anthropology, mining, and the coin press that was used to mint coins.
If a lesson on the firefighters of this area, the Warren Engine Co. #1 Fire Museum will do just that. This museum, which is located in the oldest continuously operated volunteer firehouse in the country, displays antique uniforms, firefighting equipment, and photographs.
On the other hand, if you want to learn about the railroads which were so important to this area, then the Nevada State Railroad Museum is the ticket. This museum has over 50 pieces of railroad equipment, including steam locomotives, coaches, and freight cars. This museum is considered one of the best in the country.
After all that history and all of those museums, it may be time to get outdoors. The Lake Tahoe area is home to several 18-hole golf courses. These courses will challenge your skill while also giving your beautiful views of the area.
Following a hard day on the links, and learning a little history, its time to think about what to do at night. Well, Lake Tahoe has no shortage of that. The area is home to many casinos run by major companies. Here, you can try your hand at a table game, or relax on a slot machine.
Of course, where you find gambling, you usually find entertainment. Lake Tahoe and its casinos bring many national and world acts to the area. It would be hard not take in a show while visiting the area.
Or, if you want to get out and meet people, the city has several nightclubs. These nightclubs target a variety of ages and interests. If you are alone, you may be able to meet new friends in one of these clubs.
As you can see, Lake Tahoe is more than just a place to lay by the fire. In fact, it is difficult to find time to take in all of the history, nightlife and entertainment that is available in this beautiful paradise.
