Every city has its haunts and the capital city of Texas is no exception. From Austins old haunted hotels to a park and a popular chain restaurant, there have been talks of the spirits that restlessly roam within. If you want to do a little ghostbusting on your next visit to Austin, here are some spots to check out.

Driskill Hotel

Back in 1885, a cattle baron by the name of Jesse Driskill bought the land for a hotel that was to open its doors in late 1886. The Driskill Hotel was the place to be for political bigwigs and many important political deals were made within its walls. Locals say that Jesse Driskill had such pride in his hotel that his often playful spirt still haunts the top two floors of the hotel, turning lights on and off in some of the suites. Some say they often smell the aroma of his cigar smoke in the rooms on these floors.

Some also say that the spirit of a woman who committed suicide in Room 29 at the Driskill still haunts the corridors. The story goes that a bride left at the altar decided to drive down to Austin and go on a shopping spree with her ex-grooms credit cards. She spent the weekend shopping and was last seen by some hotel patrons as she was getting off the elevator, loaded down with shopping bags, onto her floor. She was found dead a few days later from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the stomach.

Spaghetti Warehouse

In downtown Austin, a chain restaurant called Spaghetti Warehouse is said to house the ghost of a young boy. Many of the restaurant employees have reported that they hear the young boy giggling and see him running towards a part of the restaurant that now houses the restrooms. Research has shown that the building used to be a brothel back in the 1800s, but nobody knows who the young boy is or where he came from.

Metz Elementary

In the early 1900s, Metz Elementary was erected, but after serving its community for almost 70 years, it was decided that a bigger and better school needed to be built in its place. As construction workers began work on demolishing the old school, they came upon numerous inexplicable problems. Many workers heard young children laughing and playing within the walls of the building even though they were positive it was empty. Equipment began breaking for no reason and wristwatches worn by the workers would stop working all of a sudden. Not until a fatal accident occurred along with several workers refusing to come near the building did the construction company bring in a religious figure to bless the school.

Richard Moya Park: Moores Crossing

Many people believe this bridge is haunted by many ghosts, including one of a white man who was hanged because of his affair with a black woman. People who claim to have seen this ghost say that you can see the body hanging from the beams of the bridge and that a young woman stands below it looking up.
