Spring Summer Make up 2007

The past few years we have seen glowing bronze skin for Spring / Summer beauty and who can resist the sun-kissed look. Time for a change healthy skin will always be in and this season is no different. So what are we seeing? The comeback of make up! You guessed it colour, gloss (not just for the lips), glitter, pinks, violets, golds and reds. Not all at once mind you we have broken down the trends and dont forget to make note of the translate to everyday so you know how not to take the runway the wrong way.

Skin has a creamy base lux skin FACEatelier has the BEST foundation this side of Jupiter. The silicone is a miracle ingredient that gives the second skin quality no cake or crease.

The basis to a great look is your foundation.

**translate to everyday spot correct blemishes and discolouration with a concealer brush and lightly powder entire face

Cheeks are a subtle colour put away your bronzer Pink Satin FACEatelier or a soft peach Andes by Vasanti - if you want to see more of a pinky healthy glow the new classic Orgasm by NARS.

Eyes are a strong focus with a new player in town LASHES! Applying strips and flare clusters are as simple as slipping into a pair comfortable shoes. Ardell lashes are easily accessible pharmacies everywhere carry them and to apply grab your Tweezermans, lightly pinch them at the base, dip into glue, count to 10 (so the glue becomes tacky) and place onto outer corner of your eye and work inwards. And Blink! Its on! For flares, continue for 4-6 lashes.

**translate to everyday use only the flares as strips in day light are too dramatic

Metallics are coming into play as well. We saw gold sparkly liner at Chanel, sheer gold wash on the lid at Donna Karan, Layers of gloss and shimmer at Missoni and Daniel Franco (I directed the look at Daniels show) and full on metallic drama at Versace and Anand Jon (again Anands was under my direction).

If its gold liner that you are after, Lise Watiers Glitter liner in Smoky Gold or Hard Candy Glitter Eye Pencil in Hyper will give you the look you want. Pigments are the way to go if you want to achieve the layered metallic look. FACEateliers Snake Eyes already has a blend of metallics so you dont have to layer them if you are daring, layer gold with bronze or violet or silver with icy blues. MAC has gorgeous pigments and I would suggest applying with a sponge tip applicator or with your finger. Pat on the pigments as wiping them on will cause the undertones to mix and the result is a muddy flat colour without reflection.

**translate to everyday Gold liners are fun for day or night but if its the pigment you are after then try a wash on the entire eye like MACs Naked - a beautiful neutral colour with a hint of shimmer.

Lip trends are in sticks this season creamy caf au lait, pink and red we all love our gloss but now its time for lipsticks to shine. Diane Von Furstenberg is certainly not known for shying away from pizazz and colour her models sported a beautiful creamy, Barbie pink the Barbie may not get you taken seriously at your day job so opt for a stain which is less pigment than a stick. Caf au Lait lips were sported at DSquared and Alberta Ferretti where on the other spectrum we saw rich, passionate red at Beckerman, Anand Jon and in the latest Pink Tartan s/s 2007 look book.

Caf au Lait can be achieved by mixing your concealer with a hint of lipgloss or opt for Uber Beige by Bobbi Brown. Red is the new sheer lipgloss well not really, but FACEateliers Red Fuchsia is one of my faves and with its sexy rich pigment its like a stiletto for your lip!

**translate to everyday -If a red lip is what you desire but feel like you cant pull it off Benefits Benetint is the perfect red stain for you.

Watching the runways can certainly be inspirational for trying something new but translating runway to sidewalk can be intimidating. With the translate to everyday tips this helps take the guess work out. And when you see a dramatic look that you want to mimic think of where you are, your outfit and the colours. Parent/teacher meetings probably arent the best venues for your fake lashes and your glitter.

The Bigger the Hair the closer to

SPRING!

Hair Trends for spring/summer 2007

Being a hairstylist and make up artist sometimes makes it difficult to let go and let others do hair. This season I was in NY keying make up for FACEatelier along side key hairstylist Julien Farel. What a pleasure hes a doll with a kind heart. We had never met but our teams worked together so beautifully in fact, at times for the rush of the show starts there would be 3 hairstylists and 3 make up artists on one final model but with the beautiful chaos the shows started on time and no one was the wiser.

Dust off your Crimper!! But not a direct 80s crimp its a more subtle crimp mixed with big barrel waves, Alberta Ferretti pulled off a soft, romantic crimp while Michael Kors crimped up do was the epitome of modern flirt.

**translate to everyday- The mix of crimp and curl is certainly the way to go; do fewer, thicker sections of crimping the thinner the section the more exaggerated the crimp. Protect the hair with a thermal styler try LOreal Paris Hot Curl or Redken HotSets

Centre-parted and Straight but not a chiseled part and severe straight, loose is the world, check out the hair from Fendi and Prada or tied back with the same texture like Missoni and Roberto Cavalli.

**translate to everyday This look is so simple but the loose hair can look a bit unfinished so polish up your ends with Farouk Silk Therapy.

Ponytails whether slick like Chanel , or loose like Proenza Schouler, the casual run out the door easy hair is in fashion. Grab a bungee elastic if you have thick hair if a scavenger hunt is your desire these hard to find gems are the best! No bungee? Double up your elastic this also helps to take the weight off so the elastics dont break and fewer headaches- aw- beauty can be painful!

**translate to everyday Chanels slick hair can be a little harsh for the day so instead blow-dry with a paddle brush with the dryer following the brush down the hair shaft. Pull back into a ponytail using John Friedas Secret Weapon this is a secret I want to share LOVE this product this is the new classic for hair!

Hair accessories of all shapes and sizes are so hot to make you look so cool - headbands, pins with flowers, fancy barrettes, you name it. Le Chateau, Claires and H & M are the best places to stock up, with the variety of styles and the inexpensive price you are bound to find a few to jazz up you pony. Just do not do the typical faux pas of apply all trends at once crimped hair in a ponytail sporting a flower headband with gold sparkly eyeliner, red lips and pink cheeks might all be a little over-whelming when you arent under the big top.
