There arent many cities in Texas that dont offer some type of an adventure for children. In fact Texas is a great place to take children on vacations and an even better place to raise them. Texas is filled to the brim with hospitality and the possibilities of fun things to do is bigger then a Texans ten gallon cowboy hat. What child wouldnt be delighted by visiting the original sight of the Alamo with its rich history and tales of cowboys and Indians. Located in San Antonio, tours of the Alamo are a popular attraction and children dont seem to get enough of it. After learning about the events of the Alamo children can go on a river boat ride in the lagoon.


Six Flags is another popular attraction in San Antonio and this theme park has everything a child could want from a dream vacation. Chances are high that they will run into Sylvester and Tweety or one of the other popular characters that live at the park. The park has many rides for children of all ages from the Superman Krypton Coaster to Tazs Tornado. There is no shortage of shows available and there is a water park available for cooling down on hot Texas days. Children will love visiting the animals at the San Antonio Zoo. With almost 3,500 animals available for viewing and an education center they will almost forget that they are learning. The zoo also offers a tropical boat tour and an alligator exhibit in the Everglades.




Galveston is another favorite as children love the beach and all it has to offer. Moody Rain Forest is a favorite of children due to its rain forest pyramid. Here children will delight in watching exotic birds and fish and they can enjoy the waterfalls and caverns. There is also a 3-D theater that gives the feeling of actually being in the picture. Children can also enjoy the adventures of riding a real paddle-wheel boat while on an adventure cruise of a bayou. You will also find trolley cars and a ferry in Galveston, and both offer tours of the city. Seawolf Park, located on Pelican Island in Galveston is enjoyed by children of all ages. There is a fishing pier, and a playground, as well as the famous Cavalla submarine which is housed here for children to explore.


Dallas is another favorite place of children as local sites like the Mesquite Rodeo draws in nearly two hundred and fifty thousand people every year. Children enjoy the bucking broncos and real cowboys that compete in the rodeo. Dallas also offers children a theme park bigger then Disneyland. Six Flaggs Over Texas offers some of the most spectacular rides in the United States, from the under water SpongeBob SquarePants adventure to the Shock Wave, the worlds first roller coaster with back to back vertical loops. No child can resist the zoo, especially one that is rated the biggest in Texas with the tallest statue in the state greeting visitors from Interstate 35. The 67-foot giraffe proudly stands at the entrance of the zoo. The Dallas zoo also offers children a glimpse at the best African exhibit in the nation from Saddle-billed Storks to the rare Meerkat. Guests can enjoy their tour of the zoo from the Monorail as it covers the complete safari experience.


Texas offers a host of dude ranches and children love them as well as adults. Most of these ranches are working ranches and you are invited as their guest to learn about the rich culture and the many aspects of running a ranch. From cattle herding and horseback riding to cooking over an open flame, these ranches and the people that run them offer Texas hospitality from the heart. There are quite a few dude and guest ranches in Texas from the Dixie Dude Ranch in Bandera, Texas to the Silver Spur Guest Ranch, also in Bandera, Texas. Bandera also offers visitors year round fishing and rodeos. When visiting this beautiful and rustic town, the Frontiers Museum should be added to your list of things to see. The museum is brimming with Indian artifacts and a rich history of the old west along with many relics from the past. Horseback riding as well as camping are favorite pass times of visitors at the Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera. Guests can picnic, backpack and hike. No matter what type of adventure you are looking for, the state of Texas is sure to please any child with plenty of excitement, a rich history and entertainment of every variety.
