Los Angeles is a tourist menagerie. A person could spend weeks in the Los Angeles area and still have not seen everything. The most common reason for people to venture to Los Angeles is to try and see someone famous, since all the main broadcasting networks have studios in the area.
On the north side of Los Angeles in the town of Burbank is NBC studios and the home of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Tickets are free to see the show, but rumor has it that it takes hours of waiting in line to have any chance of getting a seat. The NBC studios also offer a 70-minute tour that costs $7 for adults and $3.75 for kids. It is quite a hike, but the tourists get to see the Tonight show stage, soap opera production stages, and maybe even a few NBC stars.
No trip to Los Angeles would be complete with going to Hollywood. The most famous Los Angeles landmark is the giant Hollywood sign, which also happens to be a great place to take pictures of the Hollywood valley. Built originally in 1923 as a real estate promotion, the Hollywood sign is undoubtedly the most famous sign in the world. Once in Hollywood, every tourist worth the price of his camera needs to go for a stroll down the Hollywood Walk of Fame. All of the most famous names in show business have a star on this famous Hollywood sidewalk. The Walk of Fame ends at the world famous Graumans Chinese Theater.
Since 1927, this has been the main location for world premieres of many, many movies. The most famous and popular stars have their handprints, footprints, and signatures in the concrete of the forecourt entry to the Chinese Theater. A ticket to see a movie is usually $10, but it is $7 for matinees. While touring the Hollywood and Beverly Hills area, it is worth your time to find the famous Rodeo Drive. This one and a half block stretch contains the most famous and most expensive shopping in North America. Stars are often seen shopping and eating at one of the posh diners. Beverly Hills Trolley Tours offer some history and insight on the sites and scenes of the Beverly Hills area.
The greater Los Angeles/Orange County area is the home to several amusement parks. The biggest ones are Knotts Berry Farm, Disneyland, and Universal Studios. For something smaller, the Santa Monica Pier has a great amusement park equipped with a special area just for smaller children. The Pier has shops, five restaurants, an arcade, and an aquarium.
Professional sports teams can be found throughout the Los Angeles area. Basketball, baseball, and hockey games can be seen during their respective seasons by checking out the Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Angels, Kings, and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
The Los Angeles area has many museums, beaches, shopping areas, restaurants, and activities to keep a tourist busy for weeks. Los Angeles truly has something for every taste imaginable.
