With its spacious beaches and historical significance, Virginia Beach has long been popular with tourists. Virginia Beach, located on the southeast coast of Virginia, has a wide variety of attractions that suit various interests.

Atlantic Avenue serves as the boardwalk of Virginia Beach. The boardwalk stretches along the beach and is perfect for taking a stroll through the wide selection of shops and attractions located along Atlantic Avenue. During the summer, the boardwalk attracts many entertainment events on the weekends. There are also several permanent entertainment venues on Atlantic Avenue. Nightmare Mansion is located on 20th and Atlantic Avenue, and is a frighteningly fun experience. Another popular attraction on Atlantic Avenue is the Time Machine, an entertaining ride that takes you through time and space on an exciting and sometimes haunted adventure.

For a family-friendly day of fun, First Landing State Park is just a 10-minute drive from Virginia Beach. This 2,000 acre park features walking and bicycle trails that take you through rolling sand dunes, coastal tidal pools, and fascinating cypress swamps. The park is named for the 1607 landing of the Virginia Company at Cape Henry, and offers many historical exhibits. First Landing State Park is open year-round, and offers camping, fishing, hiking and swimming. Visitors can also enjoy accommodations in one of the cabins available at the park.

Also open year-round is the Old Coast Guard Station Museum, located on 24th Street. This museum features several interactive exhibits on subjects such as Virginias nautical history, lighthouses, ocean rescue, and shipwrecks. The museums research library houses a large selection of books, tapes, and videos that can be viewed by visitors. The Old Coast Guard Station Museum also features a gift shop and year-round special events.

Another historical site located in Virginia Beach is the Lynnhaven House. This 1725 medieval house still boasts much of its original construction, and still does not have running water or electricity. Costumed guides provide oral descriptions of the house and colonial life in Virginia.

If you are looking for amusement park entertainment that is close by, Ocean Breeze Water Park is only a mile from the oceanfront. This park features four separate entertainment sections. Tickets to each section must be purchased separately, but some discounts are available for combined purchases to the different areas of the park. Wild Water Rapids features several water slides, a wave pool, inner tube rides, and a childrens pool. At Motorworld you can race grand prix cars and enjoy several other fun rides and games for the family. Sports fans will enjoy the batting cages at Strike Zone. Shipwreck Golf features miniature golf, with 36 ocean-themed putting holes amidst colonial warships and waterfalls.
