Pennsylvania is a large yet centrally located American state. Many areas of the Keystone State are a quick drive to some of Americas most wonderful attractions.

New Jersey is right over the border. The Garden State has many places to see and discover. One of the best is the coastline. The Jersey shore is a stunning line of public and private beaches stretching from Sandy Hook in the north to Cape May at the tip. Cape May itself is one of the most memorable places along the shore. Take an hour to travel to this pretty little town and youll not only find beautiful beaches packed with wildlife but a community with dozens of brightly colored restored Victorian houses. Nearly every block of this seashore municipality has at least several eye catching houses decorated in glorious shades of every hue. If you want to spend more than a day here dozens of the lovely painted ladies are also bed and breakfasts offering guests the opportunity to stay the night and have a gourmet meal in the morning.

New York City is another terrific day trip from Pennsylvania. The wonders of the Big Apple are a mere two hour trip from most of the eastern part of Pennsylvania. If you only have a day here spend it in Manhattan. Start at the tip of the Island with a free ride on the Staten Island ferry. Take a ten minute walk and get a tour of the Stock Market. Climb downstairs and take the subway up to 34th street. Grab an elevator at the Empire State building and gasp at the views. A few blocks away is 42nd street where you can see a Broadway show or ice skate at Rockerfeller Plaza. If you have time take the subway again to 72nd street and stroll through Central Park. Catch the laser light show at the nearby Hayden planetarium before you leave.

Washington D.C. is yet another worthwhile trip from Pennsylvania. Washington is a grand place for visitors on a budget because many of the citys attractions are free. See an original copy of the Constitution. Call up your local representative beforehand and get tickets for special behind the scenes tours of the White House and Congress. Explore the many branches of the Smithsonian museum. There are exhibits that show everything from the moon walk to the dresses each First Lady wore. Touch the Vietnam memorial. Get a close up look at the monuments to President Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington. A good time to plan a trip to Washington is during April when the citys many cherry trees are in bloom.

Cleveland Ohio is another quick trip from the western part of the state. Cleveland is a compact city that can easily be seen in a day. Get tickets to a Cleveland Indians baseball game at Jacobs Field. Visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and see musical memorabilia from your favorite bands and a building designed by one of the worlds great architects. The Cleveland Science Center is a worthwhile trip with over three hundred displays that encourage visitors to directly investigate all areas of science. End your visit with a pleasant dinner in one of the citys fine restaurants that offer beautiful views of huge Lake Erie.

Baltimore is in Maryland, just over the southern border of Pennsylvania. This mature industrial city offers visitors several attractions. Of particular note is the area known as the Inner Harbor. The Inner Harbor is an old seaport that is home to many shops, museums and restaurants. There are ships from several eras that you can board directly. A must see is the National Aquarium. The National Aquarium is one of Americas greatest aquariums. Walk down corridors and marvel at the museums well designed exhibits that feature sea life from around the world. Take advantage of Pennsylvanias great location smack in middle of the Eastern seaboard and have fun traveling to the fantastic places just beyond the states borders.
